Swartkop Air Base, Pretoria, South Africa
Visiting this air base is like going home for me. I grew up hanging around Swartkop and Waterkloof as a kid. Although I couldn't get inside the base, I was always around the outside looking in. So, an airshow here is like a home game for me. I enjoy the base, it is not really used as an active base anymore so the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. The museum here is fairly representative of the aircraft flown by the SAAF over the years although there is no funding which means the old aircraft have to be "maintained" by volunteers. Mores the pity!
The airshow was very good with a mock war with loads of "shooting" and explosions which pleased the crowd no end! Highlight for me was the formation of the Boeing 737 with the Silver Falcons - awesome indeed. Also, the Tora Tora display by 13 Harvards was very good!
I took the photos with my trusty Canon 5D Mk II with my Canon 300mm lens. I also used my new Canon 60D with my Canon 24-105mm lens
