Port Elizabeth Airshow 2010, Eastern Cape, South Africa
The PE airshow is another of my favourite airshows but only because of the friendly Eastern Cape people. The airshow is held at the PE airport and the show has to be held between scheduled commercial flights so it can be a little hectic. Also, the airport authorities can be uncompromising and come down on us photographers so we are left high and dry on the public side of a high fence... So getting good photographs is a challenge. In years gone by, we have been allowed live side but ACSA have changed all of that and.......
This year, we had a real live Mustang at an SA airshow. A first! It belongs to Menno Parsons who seems to own a few aircraft! He is such a nice fellow, down to earth and very approachable. Since then, Stu has added another Mustang to the scene. Stu also has a new Sea Fury which he flies with gusto. Patrick flew a variety of aircraft including a T28 Trojan, a Harvard and his Extra in SA colours.
The SAAF brought a Hawk and a C47TP (Dakota) and of course the Silver Falcons.
Stu brought a Russian pilot to fly his L39 - and what a show that was. The pilot, Valeria, is an expert L39 pilot and does things with this aircraft that makes your hair curl! Unfortunately, the safety officer did not thing the validation flight was that good (read safe) so Valeria was asked to tone the display down somewhat. Pity!!
My trusty Canon 5D mk II was used to get the pics and a Canon 300mm lens with 1,4x convertor
